Alternations of generations life cycle
The alternations of generations is primarily the life cycle for plants. It begins with a diploid, multicellular sporophyte (2n) that undergoes meiosis to create spores. The spores, now haploid, go through a round of mitosis to grow and become a haploid, multicellular gametophyte (1n). Through another round of mitosis, these gametophytes transform into 1n gametes which will then undergo fertilization to become the same diploid, multicellular sporophytes they were at the beginning of the cycle.
